The Master’s programme World Arts and Music at the University of Bern offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of artistic and musical traditions from both Western and non-Western contexts.
Drawing on perspectives such as globalisation, inter- and transculturality and the cultural anthropology of music, the programme equips students with a broad range of analytical and practical skills. These include cultural theory and methods, fieldwork and interview techniques, as well as the use of digital media in the analysis of music, visual art, film and text.
Graduates are prepared for diverse professional fields, including cultural journalism, cultural management, cultural policy and intercultural arts education.
While the programme will be phased out by 2029, prospective students interested in related fields are encouraged to explore study options in musicology with a focus on the cultural anthropology of music at the University of Bern.
