Wir freuen uns sehr, Sie zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung “While We Clung To The Facade” einzuladen, die zugleich den Auftakt des diesjährigen Arctic Voices Kulturfestivals bildet.

‍

Auch in dieser Ausgabe schafft Arctic Voices eine Plattform für indigene Stimmen und Perspektiven aus der Arktis. Die Ausstellung ist ein Beitrag zu den weltweit laufenden Prozessen von Wahrheit und Versöhnung und richtet den Blick auf historische und gegenwärtige Formen von Gewalt, Erinnerung und Weitergabe.

Im Zentrum stehen die Erfahrungen von Sámi-Kindern im Kontext der Norwegisierungspolitik. Gedichte und Bilder eröffnen Räume für Stille, Verwirrung und Brüche – und zeigen zugleich, wie sich diese Eingriffe bis heute in Sprache, Körper und Selbstverständnis fortsetzen.

Die Ausstellung stellt diese Perspektiven in einen erweiterten europäischen Zusammenhang: Auch in der Schweiz waren marginalisierte Gruppen wie die Jenischen von ähnlichen assimilatorischen Massnahmen betroffen. Diese Parallelen machen deutlich, wie tief staatliche Eingriffe in den intimen Bereich wirken und welche Spuren sie hinterlassen.

Arctic Voices lädt dazu ein, zuzuhören – und darüber nachzudenken, was weitergetragen werden kann: nicht nur als Last, sondern auch als Bewusstsein in einer global vernetzten Gemeinschaft.

We are very pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition “While We Clung To The Facade”, which also marks the launch of this year’s Arctic Voices cultural festival.

‍

As in previous editions, Arctic Voices creates a platform for Indigenous voices and perspectives from the Arctic. The exhibition contributes to ongoing global Truth and Reconciliation processes and reflects on historical and present forms of violence, memory, and transmission.

‍

At its core are the experiences of Sámi children in the context of Norwegianization policies. Through poems and images, the exhibition opens spaces of silence, confusion, and rupture, while also exploring how these interventions continue to shape language, the body, and self-understanding today.

‍

The exhibition places these perspectives within a broader European context: in Switzerland, marginalized groups such as the Yenish were subjected to similar assimilationist measures. These parallels reveal how deeply state interventions affect the intimate sphere and the lasting traces they leave behind.

‍

Arctic Voices invites us to listen — and to reflect on what can be carried forward: not only as burden, but as awareness within an interconnected global community.

‍

The echoes are still breathing. The question is how we choose to listen.
